In her work as poet, essayist, editor, dramatist, and public intellectual, Chicana lesbian writer Cherríe Moraga has been extremely influential in current debates on culture and identity as an ongoing, open-ended process. Analyzing the "in-between" spaces in Moraga's writing where race, gender, class, and sexuality intermingle, this first book-length study of Moraga's work focuses on her writing of the body and related material practices of sex, desire, and pleasure. Yvonne Yarbro-Bejarano divides the book into three sections, which analyze Moraga's writing of the body, her dramaturgy in the context of both dominant and alternative Western theatrical traditions, and her writing of identities and racialized desire. Through close textual readings of Loving in the War Years, Giving Up the Ghost, Shadow of a Man, Heroes and Saints, The Last Generation, and Waiting in the Wings, Yarbro-Bejarano contributes to the development of a language to talk about sexuality as potentially empowering, the place of desire within politics, and the intricate workings of racialized desire.

When Jesus Christ began His earthly ministry He first went out and got baptised and was then lead of the Holy Spirit into the wilderness and there was tempted of the devil. Then in the power of the Spirit He began teaching in the synagogues. When He came to His home town of Nazareth and went to church on the sabath and stood up to read. The elders delivered the book of Isaiah to Him and He opened the book to the place where He read these words: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19 (KJV) Jesus chose this passage of scripture because it was known to be a prophecy of the coming Messiah and it is a concise outline of the purpose and ministry calling of our Lord. The Holy Spirit living in the hearts of every born-again Christian is working to fulfill this scripture for us all. Jesus Christ by The Spirit is also drawing all people to Him for their salvation through the measure of faith which our loving Father God has given to every person. It is will of God that no human being perish but that everyone would come to repnetence. It is therefore His will that we all hear and resond to the gospel; That our broken hearts be healed; that the chains of our captive bondage be broken; our physical and spritual eyes be opened; and every bruise and wound we carry be healed. That is the Theme, Calling and Purpose by which this Daily Devotional has been inspired to be written. The Word of God is clear in that our Heavenly Father wants all people to accept His salvation but just as true He wants all to be healed and delivered. It is my prayer that this Devotional will be used of The Lord to help accomplish this work in your lives.

This collection of poems is dedicated to all those who have been abused and exploited at the hands of others, and to those who love them and want to see them healed. There are many types of abuse, and exploitation. Some are abused and exploited as children and teens, and others are exploited as adults. Those who are abused and exploited as children often fall into patterns of linking up with other abusers in their adult lives. The unseen scars can be far more devastating than wounds we can see. The wounds of the heart are often the most difficult to heal, and may require “heart surgery”. The Lord Jesus is the healer, and the wounds and scars of abuse, only He can truly heal. I pray that as you read these poems, they will touch your heart and give you hope. These poems were given to me as a part of my own healing journey, and it is my deepest desire that they would become a part of your own healing as well. Jesus Christ is the only one who will never leave you or forsake you. The book of Romans, chapter 8 says that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. As you read these poems, I pray you will come to a realization of the depth of His love. He loves you. He really, really does.

Her only daughter, Emily, has rejected her, and she has found that all her attempts to help her clients seem to be falling flat. In the midst of her mid-life crises she prays for help and has a powerful dream that takes her on an incredible journey. She travels, eventually, to the Yucatan, where two special dolphins and a Spirit guide help her uncover the doorway to true emotional healing and conscious compassion. On her journey, Rose discovers this life-changing formula that brings the truth of emotions into perspective, providing an incredible life tool for everyone. ***A message from the author*** After over twenty years as a spiritual teacher following the emotional clues of life, I felt strongly that it was time to begin to share what I had learned along the way to a wider audience. For three years I tried writing a self-help book to no avail. I felt that no form of teaching is more life changing than for the reader to "feel" what the words were saying. So I set out to write a teaching novel. From the first day I began to write, Rose's story just spilled out of my heartand soul. I easily birthed The Wounded Heart, and I know there will be more to come. -NJH

Have you ever wondered why it seems like if anything could go wrong, it will? Have you ever questioned if God has forgotten about you? Have you ever pondered in your heart if anyone can see the pain you are trying desperately to hide? Have you ever thought, If I don’t get this heart of mine fixed, I am going to be no good to anyone; especially myself? If so, this book is for you. I was once there. I felt the hurt of loneliness, betrayal, disappointment, self-pity, and even defeat. But I survived, and so will you. God has placed something in you that will not allow you to break down, give up, or be conquered. I remember a time when I was fifteen years old. I was in a church pageant. I recited a poem by Maya Angelou: “I’m determined to be somebody someday.” Even in those moments of wanting to give up, God would allow me to reflect on the day I stood in the pulpit on 119th and Halsted in Chicago and tell myself, “I’m determined to be somebody someday.” In this book, you will see my hurt, my pain, my setbacks. But most of all, you will see the faithfulness, mercy, grace, and the love of God. Allow this book to be the process to start your journey to a “Renewed Heart” only Jesus can do for you.

Robert Waldron's brief biography of Thomas Merton examines and exposes a man who lived a deeply spiritual life, yes, but also a deeply conflicted one as well. By the use of Jungian theory and archetypes, Waldron explores all of the major Merton works (e.g., Seven Storey Mountain, The Sign of Jonas, The Collected Poems, Zen and the Birds of Appetite), but especially all of the many volumes of Merton's private diaries, and discovers a man, a soul struggling to live "la vita nuova" in the monastery while being drawn by various sirens out of it. Edgy, chancy, and at times speculative, Waldron penetrates Merton's sometimes dense poetry and prose to discover or uncover what was wanting in Merton's soul his desire for his own hermitage; his longing for the nurse he fell in love with; his desire perhaps to establish an entirely new monastic foundation. Merton emerges less a saint than a sinner who never stopped trying to become a saint by "becoming who he really was."
