As the Sky Darkened: The Untold Story of Biafra the Homeland gives a vivid narrative of the war that took place in Nigeria in the second part of the twentieth century. It recounts the events that preceded the war and culminated in the widespread massacres that targeted the Igbo tribe of Southeastern Nigeria and the Igbo west of the Great River Niger. The novel provides a lucid account of effort at the extermination of these people, which supports the allegation of attempted genocide of Igbos. It started in the north of the country and spread all over the country; this made the Igbo declare their own nation, their homeland, Biafra. That declaration provoked an all-out war against that young state, and the novel incorporates the wholesale destruction of life carried out by the Nigerian Army. The conflict dragged out for three long years, during which time unimaginable bombing, shelling, murder, rape, and abduction of women and girls were carried out by the invading army. Hunger was used as a weapon of war, and children, the elderly, and many more lost their lives from hunger and starvation. Lamentably, the novel recounts that the new nation, poorly equipped and ill prepared for such a protracted war, lost the war at the end of three years. It sadly concludes that after the three long years of suffering and untold anguish. With a loss of about two million Igbo civilians, they were forced back in Nigeria. After the war, life of the Igbos continued to be hard. They still felt disliked, unwanted, and unhappy for nothing they had done wrong.

'An astonishing memoir' Sonali Deraniyagala, author of Wave 'Oh, what can I not do, in my dreams. In my dreams I travel on trains and climb mountains, I play concerts and swim rivers, I carry important documents on vital missions, I attend meetings which become song-and-dance routines. My body lies boxed in darkness, but beneath my closed eyelids there is colour, sound and movement, in glorious contrast to the day; mad movies projected nightly in the private theatre of my skull.' Anna Lyndsey was living a normal life. She enjoyed her job; she was ambitious; she was falling in love. Then the unthinkable happened. It began with a burning sensation on her face when she was exposed to computer screens and fluorescent lighting. Then the burning spread and the problematic light sources proliferated. Now her extreme sensitivity to light in all forms means she must spend much of her life in total darkness. During the best times, she can venture cautiously outside at dusk and dawn, avoiding high-strength streetlamps. During the worst, she must spend months in a darkened room, listening to audiobooks, inventing word-games and fighting to keep despair at bay. Told with great beauty, humour and honesty, Girl in the Dark is the astonishing and uplifting account of Anna's descent into the depths of her extraordinary illness. It is the story of how, through her determination to make her impossible life possible and with the love of those around her, she has managed to find light in even the darkest of places.

In 17th century Japan, a battle between the shoguns and the Lees raged for a lengthy period of time. The shoguns wanted the Lees to come join their elite army, but the Lees remained neutral and peaceful people. After much harassing, the husband and wife became supreme warriors. The Lees began killing whatever shoguns threatened them. After a particularly violent, gruesome battle with the shoguns, the Lees disappeared into the Oakla Mountains for about twenty years . The mastermind, an ancient wizard siding with the shoguns, commanded what was left of the shoguns to patrol the mountains of Oakla trying to find the Lees. Decades would pass. In those twenty long years, the Lees raised a son who would become known as “the Master.” Phenomenal genetics would breed an individual who became a far better warrior and stronger fighter then both of his parents put together. In the Master’s infantile years, the mother and father went up on the mountains of Oakla, similar to Moses’ summoning of God, where they asked their God for a sacrifice. He answered, and in return of this sacrifice, he would give their extraordinary son, the Master, the power of immortality in the form of Five Scrolls of Terror. Their God asked for the skin from their baby’s head, a threatening request, but would ultimately create a child who would grow into that of the Master: the Skulled Warrior. As the Lees returned from Oakla on that twentieth or so year, they got ambushed and killed—an attack decades in the making. When the Master found the bodies of his parents, he naturally flew into a blind rage and killed many shoguns, slaughtering anyone who stood in his way. As he battled on Oakla Mountain, his scrolls disappeared off the mountain and were never seen again. As the Master went to the end of Oakla searching for the ancient wizard for retribution, he came across an ancient hut, and inevitably the wizard and the Master did battle. The Master would ultimately kill the wizard, but he would put a curse on the Master that would remain with the Master for nearly four hundred years. As the Master’s statue, which in reality was the curse turning him to stone, was moved by cult followers and believers, it eventually found its way to New Amsterdam, which as we know, would evolve into present-day New York City. An adventure unfolds as the Master awakens after a four-hundred-year slumber, masked as a mysterious piece of art, to deal with our current world as we know it. And so begins The Dark Legend of The Foreigner.

In 1972 Abbie Ross’s cosmopolitan parents move the family from London to rural North Wales, exchanging a town house in Islington for a remote farmhouse on a hill. Abbie’s Liverpudlian grandparents – dedicated followers of Liberace, sleek in scented mohair and patent leather – are sure they’ve lost their minds. For Abbie, though, the only cloud on the horizon is the nearby hippy commune and its inhabitants. There are worrying signs that this is the sort of ‘better life’ that her parents have in mind. Brilliantly evoking a particular time and place, Abbie’s memoir re-creates a world of dens and pineapple chunks, of John Craven’s Newsround and fishing for sticklebacks – and the joy but also the burning powerlessness of being a child. Disgusted by her father’s ‘yogic flying’ and her mother’s taste for brown bread and billowing cheesecloth (with no bra), Abbie is desperate not to be different. Far better, she thinks, to fit in with shouting, pathologically nosy Sara across the fields,or stay close to Philip next door – paralysingly shy and with a preference for orange food and no trousers (‘nice to have a bit of air’) ... Rich with detail that reveals a whole world, Hippy Dinners is very funny and full of heart. It is also a delicate and astute portrait of the brutal realities of ‘a simple life’.

The Master of Darkness is the tyrannical ruler of the western coastal city of Kerballa. In an attempt to extend his rule inland, he has kidnapped the Princess of Time and is holding her prisoner in his castle until she agrees to marry him. The young knight, Red John, is in love with the Princess. He sets out on a quest to free her accompanied by his friend Morduc, an Elven Prince. As they are crossing a river, John is swept away by a flash flood. Morduc continues on their quest alone. During that journey he meets his own true love Marianna, learns to speak Froggan, and survives a trip through dark and dangerous caverns beneath the mountains east of Kerballa. Meanwhile, a jungle tribe far downriver has saved John from the flood. He returns the favor by saving the tribe from the Monkey King. As a reward, he is offered the chief's daughter and royal rule, but declines, remaining faithful to the Princess. With Palla Nad and Yanibo, two new jungle friends, he arrives at the southern port city of Imbal where they all sign on as performers with a travelling circus. The circus docks at Kerballa on the very same day that Morduc enters the city disguised as a seedy old street magician. Both are eventually invited to perform at the castle. During their performances they succeed in rescuing the Princess just as lightning bolts begin to rain down upon the castle. The Master of Darkness is presumed dead and buried beneath the smoking rubble. Red John is elected the governor of the newly free Kerballa. In a festive wedding in the town square Red John marries the Princess, and Morduc marries his beloved Marianna.
